Round 13 Opposition: Ashburton G Score: 12.9-81 def 3.4-22

MATCH REPORT

This week we played at home against Ashburton G who is currently sitting in 3rd position on the ladder and they were quite competitive last time we meet so our focus was to start strong and attack the game.

It was another very windy day with the wind blowing across the ground toward the scoreboard.

We started the game well with all the boys hitting the ground running Sammy, Nicholas ,mo and james all having great qtrs. We kicked into the wind and out scored Ashburton 4.2-26 to 1.2-8 a excellent start by the whole team,

2nd qtr the boys continued with there efforts with some great footy from Matty , Harrison, Riley and Lachlan,we again kept ashburton to 1 goal as we kicked another 2 and went into half time with a hand lead

6.6-36 to 2.3-15

3rd qtr again we worked well with Mohammed capping of some brilliant work from Stefan who gave out a clever handball to Riley who got it onto Mo who finished the great work with a great running goal again we kept Ashburton to 1 goal and extended our lead at 3qtr time

8.8-56 to 3.4-22

4th qtr I asked the boys to continue there great pressure and excellent team work highlighted by some efforts from Lachlan and Stefan competing to win the ball when they were out numbered!! A solid game from Mo and Anthony getting some goals Aodh’s first game back with 2 goals and a very team focused game from all, I also set

them a target of keeping Ashburton from scoring a goal, well they did better than that by keeping Ashburton scoreless and scoring 4.1 ourselves.. over all it was probably the best 4qtr performance we have produced this year with excellent ball use and sharing the load with great run and carry!!

Final score 12.9-81 to 3.4-22 a great effort against a good side.

Goal Kickers, Anthony Vitsos 4, Mo 3, Aodh 2, Nikhail 1, Stefan 1, Matty 1.

Best Players, Matty, Samuel, Nicholas, Stefan, Lachlan, Mo , Anthony

Round 12 Opposition: Banyule Score: 8.5-53 def 2.2-14

MATCH REPORT

This week we played at home against Banyule, they only had 16 players so we agreed to supply 2 boys a qtr to them which would make it 18 on 18 and give everyone a full game, although its not a popular thing for our boys to do I am very proud of the boys that did as they were respectful and tried there best ,great job boys!!

Banyule are a much improved team from the last time we played them and to their credit they battled very hard for the entire game , again it was another very windy day which made it difficult for our boys to execute with precision but we were still able to control the game for most parts and ran out comfortable winners.

Final scores 8.5-53 to 2.2-14

Goal Kickers, Harrison Martin 3, Nikhail Keecha 2, Mo Sidaoui 2, Anthony Vitsos 1

Best Players, Harrison, Jake Wood, Riley, Matty, Mo, Lachlan

Round 11 Opposition: Kew/Greythorn Score: 7.12-54 def 3.1-19

MATCH REPORT

This week we travelled to the home ground of Kew/Greythorn the second time we have played them at there home! On a very windy day it was always going to be difficult for the boys.

The last time we played this team we had a very big win and I wanted the boys to understand they need to be focused on today and forget about last time. Also this being our first game for a few weeks due to school holidays, we also were missing a couple of boys still away on school holidays!!

The game was played mostly in our attack for the majority, Kew battled hard and managed to kick 3 goals for the game and they put up a much better fight this time than last we played them, our boys played extremely well and if it wasn’t for our in accuracy the margin may have been much more, we do need to work on sharing the ball around when attempting to score always looking for someone in a better position but overall a very good game again.

Final scores 7.12-54 to 3.1-19

Round 10 Opposition: Hawthorn Citizens Score: 5.5-35 def 2.4-16

MATCH REPORT

This week we travelled to the home ground of the top of the ladder team Hawthorn Citizens. After a narrow win at our ground last time we meet this was going to be a real challenge and a opportunity for us to take the top spot!!

This was a game of inches from the very beginning with both teams being evenly matched all over the ground. The game was a bit scrappy due to the pressure from both teams, our mid field group of Harrison ,Matty , Samuel and Riley worked well getting the ball forward on manty occasions , as the game went on Harrison attracted a tag and found it difficult due to the questionable tactics employed by his opponent, fortunately the official became aware of these tactics and as a result Harrison kicked a couple of goals from free kicks..

We worked extremely hard as a team today and the boys got the rewards with a very good win which has taken us to the top of the ladder Great job boys keep it up.

Final scores 5.5-35 to 2.4-16

Round 9 Opposition: Brunswick Score: 8,7.55 def 2.4-16

MATCH REPORT

Back at home this week to take on Brunswick who the previous week had really ran Hawthorn Citizens to the wire so I was suspecting another hard fought game.

The first qtr was a tight tussle with no team really getting a advantage and the scores were relatively close at the end of the qtr , our boys battled hard but just had a bit of the fumbles which probably could be put down to thee pressure Brunswick were applying.

The second qtr followed a similar path to the first with no team being able to take control , both teams battled hard with some great efforts across the board from all boys the scores were pretty close at half time

During the Third qtr we started to take control and had the ball locked down our forward half for the majority of the qtr , we managed to score several goals and go into the last qtr with a handy lead

The last qtr began and our boys continued to work hard and got the desired result ,we kicked away and ended up winning the game by 39 points with another great team effort.

Final scores 8.7-55 to 2.4-16

Round 8 Opposition: Ashburton G Score: 9.9-60 def 3.3-21

MATCH REPORT

This week we played away against Ashburton G , following there form as we hadn’t played them yet I knew we would have a tough game.

The first QTR was hotly contested and as I suspected Ashburton was well and truly ready for the game, we kicked 3 goals to 1 this qtr and held a 13point lead. Great work from the mid field and and our forward converting the opportunities we had, great tackling was a highlight of the qtr.

The second QTR was a real battle with neither team really able to take control with us adding 1.2 to 1.1 Ashburton playing at home were really putting it up to us with the ball going from one end to the other with both backlines being put under pressure.

At half time the scores were 4.3-27 to 2.1-13 so 14 points in our favour.

The third qtr again was a real arm wrestle with both teams scoring 1.2 for the qtr Ashburton with their home ground advantage was putting our boys under pressure with every possession and we were dishing it up to them just as well , it was very pleasing to see our boys stand up away from home and fight so hard. The 3 qtr time score was 5.5-35 to 3.3-21 so by no means was this game over!!

From the first bounce of the last qtr I could seen the determination from our boys with our pressure around the ball, with some great team work across the whole ground we managed to keep Ashburton scoreless for the qtr while we managed to kick 4.1 to run out convincing 39 point winners..

The final scores being 9.6-60 to 3.3-21

A great team effort from all the boys against a very good opposition well done.

Round 7 Opposition: Banuyle Score: 15.11-101 def 1.1-7

MATCH REPORT

This week we played back at home against Banyule , after last weeks game I was hoping we could continue our good form and overall improvement. We added a new player to our rooster this week Aodh McHugh brother of Finn McHugh from the U15’s. Aodh to everyones delight is a tall boy 6.1” and very skilled, the look on the boys (and parents) faces when he was introduced was priceless!!

Banyule informed us they would only have 15 players so it was agreed we would give them three players per qtr which would even it up to 18 per side. Our boys who played for Banyule competed well for them and I thank all the boys who did this as I know its not something they really like so thanks boys.

We won the toss and decided to kick with the breeze, we started well and consistently held the ball in our attacking area for most of the qtr, we managed to kick 3 goals coming from Matty H , Anthony V and Aodh Mc these came from great contributions from Nicholas T , Riley B , Nickhail, Harrison and Matty. The boys worked well as a group moving the ball well and putting pressure on there opponents.

2nd qtr kicking against a slight breeze our focus was to restrict Banyule and still attack the contest and try to score. Well the boys excelled, and we controlled the qtr kicking 4 goals and restricting Banyule to just 1.1 , there were contributions from many this qtr with some great team play , Anthony V handballing to Mo for a goal and a great effort from Mo to kick 2 goals for the qtr , Matty H playing a strong game and getting his second goal for the game and Aodh kicking his second for the game Harrison continuing his good first qtr form Jake W working hard for the team along with Christian C and Christian F

We went into half time with a handy lead and I spoke to the boys about not letting up and continuing to attack the game

The 3rd Qtr started were we left off with us controlling the play and having the ball in our attacking area for extended periods, we got a little excited and unfortunately had to many boys entering the forward zone which made for high congestion which made it difficult for us to kick goals , we did kick 3 for the qtr 2 to Anthony V and Aodh 1 but we also kicked quite a few behinds with the boys attempting to kick goals from difficult positions , as we had a healthy lead I think the boys got a little excited Matty H, James C and Aodh playing CHB had good qtrs.

We went into the last qtr with a large lead and I asked the boys to try and share the ball better and not take silly shots for goal, we kicked 5 goals in the last qtr 1 to Matty H 1 to Anthony V Harrison kicked 1 and Aodh slotted home 2 for the qtr , Nickhail nearly kicked one as did Daniel and Reuben, continued practice for these boys ill see them hitting the scoreboard soon, Wataru played a fantastic second half as did James C ,Joel Foo in his second game started to get involved as the game went on Mo looked dangerous when he was up forward and did a great job when he moved up the ground, Jacob R had another consistent game executing his roll very well Stefan and Lachlan both gave us great contests winning the ball and setting up some great play.

Overall it was a good game by our boys and they did most things well with a consistent 4 qtr effort , we must continue to work on holding our positions and not getting caught following the ball when we can’t impact the contest.

Round 6 Opposition: Kew/Greythorne Score: 13.5-83 def 1.4-10

MATCH REPORT

This week we ventured out to Gordan barnard reserve to play Kew/Greythorne. Another reasonable day for footy with a few light showers around and a light wind. We won the toss and elected to kick with the breeze in the first qtr.

The first five minutes each team competed well sizing each other up before we started to take control. We hit the score board and kept the opposition scoreless with some excellent team work and some great individual efforts!!

The second qtr continued in the same vain with Kew only able to kick 1 goal with the aid of a slight breeze and us continuing with some great play. The highlight of the first half was Anthony Vitsos kicking 5 goals a fantastic effort and Harrison and Matty running a muck around the contests setting up many forward attacks

The Third qtr continued the same theme with us hitting the scoreboard regularly and holding Kew scoreless for the qtr again.

I asked the boys to kick on in the last and try and hold Kew goalless but to continue to score ourselfs which they did extremely well

In summary the boys played our best game for the year completely dominating the contest from start to finish, Anthony ended the game with 7 goals a great effort and something he should be proud of!! Hopefully this is a break through moment for Anthony and he realizes going forward if he makes the ball his target at every contest he will rarely be beaten. Great games from Harrison (3 goals) Matty (20+ possessions) and Mo (3 goals) with contributions from all of the kids, what is pleasing is the continued improvement of our new players Rueben and Daniel and the improved consistency from the remainder of the group!!

Round 5 Opposition: Hawthorn Citizens Score: 3.3-21 def 2.4-16

MATCH REPORT

Today we played Hawthorn Citizens at home in a re-match from rnd 1 where they got us by 4 points so I was expecting another close game, both Hawthorn and us have found ourselves in black division after grading. I think this grade may suit us better due to the mix of ages in our team.

During the week we appointed dual captains and dual vice captains Matty Hausegger and Harrison Martin are our captains and Nicholas Tomkins and Christian Ferizis our vice captains this forms our leadership group with one to be added in the next few weeks, these boys were chosen due to there work efforts during training and in games, there roles will be helping keep the team on task during training and during games so we can grow our football skills as a group!

Now to the game! It was another excellent day for football with a breeze blowing towards the bottom oval at schramms, we won the toss and kicked with the breeze, we had 18 players this week so no bench, We started a little slow with the ball spending time in their fowardline early before we got a bit of run going and some great linking play , unfortunately for us we lost Matty Hausegger half way through the qtr with a hyper extension of his knee in a attempt to kick, Matty sat out the rest of the game and we hope all

he recovers quickly, we got on the scoreboard with a great goal from Mo (Mohammed) and then added another through some great play from Harrison we ended the qtr with a 14 point lead keeping Hawthorn scoreless.

The second qtr was very fiercely contested with our defense doing a great job! Hawthorn managed to kick 2 goals in this qtr and we were held scoreless, we defended well but we also had a few to many get sucked into the area of the ball with the hawthorn boys creating a wall and continually sending the ball back into there forward line, we must learn to hold our positions better to allow a outlet from defence. The score at half time was 2.2-14 to 2.0-12

Our aim in the 3rd qtr was to score as much as we could with the assistance of the breeze, hawthorn had other idea’s having nearly all there kids in our forward half, this made it difficult to score but we managed to get 1 goal kicked by Anthony Vitsos’s fantastic attack on the ball and finish. We again kept Hawthorn scoreless.

We headed into 3 qtr time with a 9 point lead 3.3-21 to 2.0-12 and knew we would have to work hard to keep the lead with Hawthorn having the breeze in the last qtr.

The last qtr was a arm wrestle with the ball spending the majority of time in Hawthorns forward half, we had several foray’s forward but with no success, the boys battled hard and kept Hawthorn at bay only allowing them to score 4 behinds for the qtr which gave us a 5 point win!!

The boys should all be proud of the way they are improving each week and really starting to work as a team, our newer players Reuben and Daniel are competing better and better each week, Stefan, Lachlan, Wataru, are cracking in and giving us great contests and improving each week, James, Jaron, Jake and Jacob are our rocks down back have been doing a fantastic job, Riley, Matty, Harrison and Samuel have been leading our on ball brigade

and killing it ,Nicholas, Christian F have been giving us great run off the half back flank and Nikhail, Anthony and Mohammed have been providing scoring options up front . All the boys should be proud of there efforts so far but must continue to train hard and practice their skill’s and try to get as much out of training as they can, we are now in a grade I think we will be competitive and if the boys want to feel that winning feeling regularly then we need to keep working. Well done Sunday boys lets make this the start of something great!!

Opposition: North Brunswick Score: 5.11-41 def by 3.1.-19

MATCH REPORT

Today we played North Brunswick at our home ground on another perfect day for football. The kids all arrived on time and seemed ready to go. Jake Wood was our captain for the day. North Brunswick players started filtering in and it was very clear they were going to be a very big side with at least 4 of their boys looking like 18year olds.. There was a bit of talk by the boys about the size of some of their kids, I did my best to pump our boys up telling them to concentrate on the ball and they would be fine.

We didn’t win the toss and were asked to kick towards the clubrooms in the first qtr. With the size of the opposition I was a little concerned how our boys would handle it, first bounce went down there ruckman hit to another giant who casually pushed away our boys and proceeded to kick the ball about 50 metres into ther forward line where they got hold of the ball and kicked a goal.. Not a great start for us and this had me concerned, next ball up was much more of a contest with Jake getting his hand to the ball a tapping it to our advantage ,Harrison scooping the ball and getting it into our forward line, were Anthony ran onto it and kicked a goal!! I was
feeling much better at this time! and I could see the boys were up for the fight!! In a hotly contested qtr were we kicked 2 goals to brunswicks 3-3 and went into qtr time 9 points down which was a great effort by the boys!

The second Qtr began with us kicking towards the bottom oval which traditionally has been the scoring end due to the ground slightly sloping that way , we didn’t start the way I was hoping with Brunswick having the ball at there end early, we fought hard and kept them goalless for the qtr ,we kicked a goal on the back of some great play from Nicholas T, Christian F and great support from James C, Mohammed finished the great work with a great snap! It took courage and skill for that play and the boys showed plenty great work

For the rest of the game it was a massive arm wrestle against the land of giants we won a lot of battles and I firmly believe we were the better skilled team across the ground and our efforts were outstanding ,only to more goals were scored for the game and unfortunately they got them. Our boys can hold their heads high as the all battled on very hard and never gave up just the sheer size of the opposition wore our boys down in the end.

Round 3 Opposition: balwyn Score: 8.3-51 def by 6.3-39

MATCH REPORT

Today we played Balwyn at there home ground on a perfect day for football. The kids all arrived on time and seemed ready to go. James Coutsovuelis was our captian for the day. Balwyn won the toss and elected to kick towards Whitehorse road with a slight breeze favoring that end.

I could tell early that our boys were up for the fight with us being in every contest and winning plenty of football, Balwyn kicked 3.2 to our no score for the qtr but this didn’t really reflect the evenness of the qtr in play, we had a few opportunities but just couldn’t hit the score board.

The 2nd qtr showed the advantage kicking with the slight breeze with us continuing to win plenty of ball but this time we hit the score board and went into half time just 1 goal down 3.2 to 4.2, it was a good qtr with Harrison ,Stefan, Lachlan all having great qtr’s

The 3rd qtr went very similar to the 1st with us having plenty of football, but again we were unable to hit the score board.. Our efforts were great and we really had some excellent efforts across the team but just couldn’t finish off our work. 3.2 to 6.3

With us having the slight advantage in the last qtr we spoke about believe that we could win this game at 3qtr time . We battled hard and again had some great efforts across the team, we kicked 3.1 this qtr to take us to 6.3 for the game unfortunately Balwyn kicked 2 goals taking them to 8.3 for the game. Our inability to kick any score against a slight breeze turned out to be our downfall.

Overall a great effort from all the boys with some stand outs proving if you work hard to get to the contests you can make a difference, Stefan and Lachlan had good games Ruben and Nikhail gave great contests Harrison, Matty, Samuel all played well, Anthony also showed when the balls his focus he cant be stopped also I would like to welcome Daniel Fahkri to our team ,Daniel started very well and gave us great contests ,overall im really pleased with all the kids efforts and improvements each week

Round Opposition:  Templestowe Score:  2.3-15 def by  6.5-41

MATCH REPORT

Today we played our first home game for the year @ 11.30am . After a good effort last week and some good training during the week we arrived at the ground with lots of optimism. This week would have been the first time in a couple of years we could put out a full side and have 1 on the bench, unfortunately Templestowe requested we play a 16 a side game as they didn’t have full numbers! This of course put us with 3 on the bench.

Nikhail Keech  was our selected captain this week and it was also his birthday the day before Happy Birthday Nikhail. We lost the toss and templestowe selected to kick towards the pavillion. The first qtr was well contested by both sides and the scores reflected that with tempelstowe kicking the only goal for the qtr we had some great ball movement set up by Matty H and Harrison M with Nic T and Christian F giving us plenty of run through the middle we competed hard in our forward line but just couldn’t capitalize. The second qtr showed much of the same as the first with our boys playing some great footy without reward, templestowe kicked a couple of goals giving them a 18 point lead going into half time.

I must be sounding like a broken record by now but the third and fourth qtrs followed a similar path with us having plenty of the ball and playing some good football, we managed to kick a couple of goals in the third qtr to get back in touch but Templestowe kicked away in the last qtr , we ended up going down by 26 points.

The boys  gave all in warm conditions but we just fell away in the last few minutes of each qtr, as this group hasn’t been together long and our training started late our fitness levels are a little behind at the moment, I can never question the boys efforts I know they give there all ,we just need to get fitter which will help us play well for longer.

Todays game saw some great efforts from all boys and some stood out , James Coutsouvelis played a outstanding game down back , Mohammed Sidaoui had a outstanding game, Matty H, Harrison M, Nic T and Samuel M all played well many others played there hearst out as well so chin up boys get to training lets work on a few things and be ready for next Sunday..

Round 1 Opposition:  Hawthorn Citizens Score:  2.4-16 def by  3.2-20

MATCH REPORT

Today we travelled out to East Hawthorn for a 11.30am game. There was a bit of anxiousness in the coaching staff due to this being a new team with a mix of 11 and 12 year old boys making up a U/13’s squad. I really didn’t know what to expect from the boys as the training had been a little mixed due to numbers and not really having all the boys together for very long and the fact that many had never played with each other!!

Well it took about 30 seconds into the first qtr to realize that this group of boys were going to be alright at this level!!

Right from the start they were cracking in and attacking each contest as if all the boys were playing there own age group it was fantastic to see!!

The conditions were tricky due to a bit of light rain and a flukey wind which at times swung from favoring one end and then the other ,our boys lead by our Captian for the Day Riley Bowen were in every contest and had plenty of ball in our forward line , we ended the qtr about a goal down.

The second qtr continued along a similar path with our boys having plenty of the ball and stringing some fantastic plays together Anthony Vitsos and Nikhail Keech were providing excellent targets up forward and working hard to keep the ball in our zone , they were being supplied by some great efforts up the field from Mohammed Sidaoui, Matthew Hausegger, Samuel Martin and Nicholas Tomkins.

We came in at half time with a slight lead a fantastic effort from the boys!!

3rd qtr saw the wind slightly heading to hawthorns end so our aim was to work hard keep the ball out of their forward line. The boys did a great job of this! Jacob Russell had hurt his ankle in the second qtr  and showed real courage staying out on the field ,I asked him to stay in the goal square as he couldn’t run!! Again Jacob showed amazing courage and even though he could run around properly he still put the opposition defenders under pressure, he got some reward with a great goal for us which put back infront.. well done Jacob!!

The last qtr was another battle between two evenly matched teams with ball bouncing between forward lines, we lead for the most of the qtr with Hawthorn kicking a goal with about 2min remaining to have a lucky win. The boys can be very proud of there efforts on Sunday as they never gave up and fought the game out against a team with 22 u/13 aged kids great effort..

Keep training and working kids we will keep improving and the more you play with team mates the better you will play together.

Just on another note thanks to all the hard work done by many to get this group together
